Weeks of Welcome (WoW) for New Non-local Students 

The Weeks of Welcome (WoW) is comprised of a series of fun and fact-finding activities to assist the new non-local students to settle down, induct into the local way and get to know about the new environment and people. We have prepared a series of pre-arrival Zoom sessions and local tours to help prepare your arrival to HKU and explore HK. Local students will serve as student hosts to lead WoW tours and introduce local culture and HKU to new students. 

Peer Language Tutoring Taster Sessions 

Get ready for a great opportunity with the Peer Language Tutoring Taster Sessions! Survival Cantonese is perfect for non-Cantonese speakers, teaching you essential phrases for everyday communication to help you navigate daily life with ease. Meanwhile, Peer English Tutoring offers casual conversations with native or near-native speakers to improve your spoken English in a comfortable setting. Connect with fellow students, build your confidence, and adjust to life at HKU and in the local community – all while expanding your social circle!

Want a flourishing life? Start your journey with “Lead for Life” – HKU’s Character Leadership Course, a transformational experiential learning journey focused on cultivating character as the driving force for effective leadership. We are a community where you can make friends with students from other countries and faculties, be mentored by industry and community leaders in Hong Kong, and connect with renowned scholars and leaders from global institutions. The Ask me anything Counter is a welcoming and accessible support point for new students. Ambassadors are here to answer your questions, connect you with campus resources, share information about campus events and clubs, and help you navigate both university life and Hong Kong.

Financing Your University Studies 

You’ll find guidance on managing your finances, information on searching for internships and part-time jobs, details about government and university financial aid programmes, the First-in-the-Family Education Fund, and other helpful resources. ⁠ 

CEDARS Peer Connect & High Table 

CEDARS Peer Connect and High Table, a flagship programme for first-year undergraduate students entering HKU, puts new students from different faculties and countries of origin into small groups.  It comprises four non-academic induction activities, namely Goal Setting, Inspirational Activities, High Table, and IG Challenge on HKU Life Hacks.   

Upon completion of CEDARS Peer Connect and High Table, you can redeem your own Green Gown, one of the most wanted HKU collectables that is available nowhere else!

GLOCAL Connect

Get paired with a friendly and like-minded peer to navigate the ins and outs of university life. New non-local undergraduate students will have the opportunity to connect with fellow students from around the world through a variety of activities organised throughout the year.
