Common Core Curriculum
The HKU Common Core Curriculum is the centrepiece of the undergraduate curriculum. It stimulates students’ intellectual curiosity to explore issues of profound significance to humankind through five Areas of Inquiry (AoIs): Scientific and Technological Literacy, Arts and Humanities, Global Issues, China: Culture, State and Society, and Artificial Intelligence. Common Core courses are interdisciplinary in nature and are taught by professoriate staff from all Faculties.
The Curriculum
Common Core has exciting opportunities and funding options for students to engage beyond their curriculum and disciplines and explore a wide range of interdisciplinary topics. These will help to cultivate your curiosity, develop important competencies, expand your network, and develop your portfolio.
Undergraduate research projects
Explore research projects, including through field trips, competitions, and internships, and working with industries, communities, and international institutions. Or lead projects individually or with friends, based on your interests and passions.
Experiential Learning

Leadership and Impact Award
Leadership and execution is becoming a critical competence in our increasingly volatile and complex contemporary world. This award scheme supports undergraduate students in undertaking hands-on projects that make a real difference through leading others and delivering tangible outcomes.
