Master Registration
After you have obtained the HKU Portal account information, you are required to complete the online Master Registration immediately via the HKU Portal. This process is crucial for the production of your Student Registration Card, course selection and application for all University services / facilities.

Hall Application

Student Body Registration and Hall Information Day – Signing up for Student-led Orientation Activities
The Student Body Registration and Hall Information Day will be held from 8 Aug to 9 Aug 2026, depending on your curriculum of study. New students will have the opportunity to explore campus, meet their fellow classmates, and learn about academic planning through visits to their respective faculty and academic societies. They can also join diverse interest clubs and attend student-led orientation activities.
Additionally, students are encouraged to visit information booths and join hall tours for both residential and non-residential halls.

Faculty Academic Adviser Sign-up
Every HKU undergraduate student is supported by a Faculty Academic Adviser (FAA) throughout their study journey at HKU. Your FAA is an academic staff from your home Faculty who offers advice and guidance on academic-related issues.

Inauguration Ceremony for New Students
The Inauguration Ceremony for New Students, organised by CEDARS, serves as the University’s formal welcome to all first-year students. This important occasion provides an opportunity for students to meet the University’s principal officers and senior academics.
The Ceremony also features a Robing Ceremony, symbolising the official induction of new students into the University community. All new students are welcome to attend.

Orientation Day for International Students and Student Club Fair
This is an orientation session designed for the newly arrived international students. Topics include adjustment issues, support services and resources provided by CEDARS, life in Hong Kong and HKU and many more. Apart from introducing you to Hong Kong, the University and our campus, you will also get to know other newly arrived international students on the occasion. The Student Club Fair will be hosted afterwards to introduce the new students to various student clubs. You can meet student representatives from different student societies and register on the spot as members of these societies.

With scams becoming more sophisticated around the world, we want to help you stay safe and smart.
Last year, there were about 80 scam cases involving HKU students with over HK$22 million lost. This is an alarming trend, and we all need to work together to protect ourselves and each other.
What you need to do
All new students are required to complete the CEDARS Anti-Scam Learning Kit 2026 within 14 days after finishing your online master registration.
The quiz, titled “CEDARS Anti-Scam Learning Kit 2026”, will be available at:

(one working day after you complete your online master registration)
Quiz details
- Format: A 60-minute multiple-choice quiz on Moodle with 49 questions
- Content: Helpful tips on how to spot and prevent scams
- Passing score: At least 40 out of 49 (If you fail, you must retake the quiz until you pass.)
Please refer to CEDARS – Anti Scam website (Anti-Scam Resource Hub) for information before you do the quiz.
Deadline and consequences
- You must pass the quiz by 5:00 PM on the deadline.
- If you do not pass on time, you will lose physical access to Chi Wah Learning Commons and all university libraries.
- Don’t worry – access will be restored within 2 working days after you successfully pass the quiz.

To encourage timely engagement and strong performance, students who complete and pass the quiz with the highest scores by 1 September 2026 will qualify for the Early Completer Awards.
Selected students will be notified by CEDARS and will receive the following souvenirs:
