Common Core Curriculum

The HKU Common Core Curriculum is the centrepiece of the undergraduate curriculum. It stimulates students’ intellectual curiosity to explore issues of profound significance to humankind through four Areas of Inquiry (AoIs): Science, Technology and Big Data, Arts and Humanities, Global Issues, and China: Culture, State and Society. Common Core courses are interdisciplinary in nature and are taught by professoriate staff from all Faculties.

The Curriculum
The Common Core Curriculum is the centrepiece of the undergraduate curriculum at HKU.
2. Common Core is divided into four Areas of Inquiry (AoIs): Science, Technology and Big Data, Arts and Humanities, Global Issues, and China: Culture, State and Society.
3. Students of four-year curriculum are required to take 6 six-credit courses in the Common Core Curriculum, comprising at least one and not more than two courses from each AoI.
4. Not more than four courses should be selected within one academic year except where students are required to make up for failed credits.
5. Common Core Clusters and Transdisciplinary Minors: you may pursue an organised course of interdisciplinary study tailor-made to your interests.
