Master Registration 

After you have obtained the HKU Portal account information, you are required to complete the online Master Registration immediately via the HKU Portal. This process is crucial for the production of your Student Registration Card, course selection and application for all University services / facilities. 

Hall Application 

New local students can apply via HKU Portal from 8 Aug (10am) to 14 Aug 2025 (5:59pm).

New non-local students should apply via CEDARS (On-line Hall Application Form for Newly Admitted Non-local students).
The application deadline is 15 Sep 2025.

Student Body Registration and Hall Information Day – Signing up for Student-led Orientation Activities

The Student Body Registration and Hall Information Day will be held from 9 to 10 Aug 2025, depending on your curriculum of study. New students will have the opportunity to explore campus, meet their fellow classmates, and learn about academic planning through visits to their respective faculty and academic societies. They can also join diverse interest clubs and attend student-led orientation activities. Additionally, students are encouraged to visit information booths and join hall tours for both residential and non-residential halls. 

Faculty Academic Adviser Sign-up 

Every HKU undergraduate student is supported by a Faculty Academic Adviser (FAA) throughout their study journey at HKU. Your FAA is an academic staff from your home Faculty who offers advice and guidance on academic-related issues.

Students from the Faculties of Architecture / Arts (double-degree programmes) / Business and Economics / Engineering / Law / Science / Social Sciences:

You are requested to sign up for your FAA from 2 pm, 11 Aug (Monday) to 10 am, 19 Aug, 2025 (Tuesday) through master registration or at https://ugaa.hku.hk/signup-faa.php (HKU Portal login required), on a first-come-first-served basis.

If you do not sign up by 19 Aug, 2025, the System will randomly assign an FAA and / or an FSA to you.

Students from the Faculty of Arts (single-degree programmes):

You are requested to sign up for your FAA from 5 pm, 15 Aug (Friday) to 10 am, 22 Aug, 2025 (Friday) through master registration or at https://ugaa.hku.hk/signup-faa.php (HKU Portal login required), on a first-come-first-served basis. If you do not sign up by 22 Aug, 2025, the System will randomly assign an FAA to you.

Students from the Faculties of Dentistry, Education, and Medicine:

Your Faculty Academic Adviser (FAA) will be manually assigned to you by your Faculty. You will receive notification from your Faculty in due course.

Faculty Induction Talks 

The Faculty Induction Talk will give you an overview of your study at HKU and university life including introduction to your Faculty and Departments, programme structure, important academic matters such as curriculum requirement, course selection and enrolment, academic integrity, academic advising and experiential learning opportunities. 

Talk on Common Core Courses 

The Talk will provide an opportunity for you to obtain information and ask questions in relation to Common Core course selection. 

Two identical sessions to be held:  

University Registration and Induction Programme 2024-2025

The University Registration and Induction Programmes for New Students will be held during 14 to 19 August 2024, depending on your curriculum of study. The Programme comprises three parts, namely Talk on Common Core Courses, Faculty Induction Talk and Programme Induction Talk (if any) and CEDARS Non-Academic Induction Talk. 

HKU Notebook Ownership Programme 2025

HKU Notebook Ownership Programme 2025, organised by the Co-curricular Support Office, offers a wide range of notebook computers and tablets at discounted prices to all HKU students, staff and graduates.

CEDARS Non-Academic Induction Talks 

Students will be introduced to a wide range of non-academic support and resources to prepare for the new learning journey at HKU. Topics include:

  • New student adjustment tips;
  • Counselling support;
  • Support to students with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN support);
  • Financial resources;
  • Housing information;
  • Career advising;
  • Co-curricular programmes and out-of-classroom learning opportunities;
  • Different non-academic induction activities, and more…

Limited quota is available on a first-come-first-served basis. New undergraduates should enrol in one of the following sessions.

*In case of inclement weather, the online sessions of CEDARS Non-Academic Induction Talk 2025 on 16 and 27 Aug will be held as scheduled.  

Inauguration Ceremony for New Students

The Inauguration Ceremony for New Students, organised by CEDARS, is the University’s formal welcome to all first-year students at which they will meet the principal officers and senior academics of the University. The Ceremony also consists of a Robing Ceremony which signifies the official induction of the new students to the University family. All new students are expected to attend.

Orientation Day for Non-local Students and Student Club Fair 

This is an orientation session designed for the newly arrived non-local students. Topics include adjustment issues, support services and resources provided by CEDARS, life in Hong Kong and HKU and many more. Apart from introducing you to Hong Kong, the University and our campus, you will also get to know other newly arrived non-local students on the occasion. The Student Club Fair will be hosted afterwards to introduce the new students to various student clubs. You can meet student representatives from different student societies and register on the spot as members of these societies.
